Blemish Busting Bentonite Clay Face Mask | Whole Green Love

8 Aug

My skin is super confused lately. I’m not sure if I got too much sun on vacation or if it’s high stress levels or what, but my skin needed a little tough love. I could tell it was a bit oily and irritated with some random breakouts. No bueno.

I have a bag of bentonite clay that I wanted to find a good skin care use for. Bentonite clay is great for the skin because it absorbs toxins and adds beneficial minerals. Some people even take bentonite clay internally as a way to detox the body.

Another powerful skin product is apple cider vinegar. It works well as an astringent and also does a good job of drying out breakouts. Some people use it as a toner to fight blemishes, so I thought it would be perfect in this face mask recipe.

Combine equal parts bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar. Stir quickly to combine until smooth and creamy.

I thought a tablespoon of each was a good amount to have about two applications of this face mask. After I put enough on my face for one application, I stored the rest in the fridge. It feels extra nice when you are applying it to your face after being cooled in the fridge.

Contact with metal will decrease the effectiveness of the clay, so use a wooden or plastic spoon to mix up your face mask.

Smooth the bentonite and vinegar mixture on your face. Leave on for face for 10-15 minutes and then rinse. Apply once or twice each week, or less if you notice your skin is becoming dry after use.

You may notice that your skin appears a bit pink or red after you wash off the mask. This goes away shortly, if it happens at all (sometimes my skin gets red and sometimes it doesn’t) and what is left is smooth, clean, detoxed skin. When my skin is breaking out, that’s usually gone in a day or two after using this mask.

If you are looking for something for more sensitive skin, consider using water in place of apple cider vinegar for making this mask.

Do you use bentonite clay for beauty products or for detoxing?
