Brewin’ Up Fresh Air with Coffee Beans | Whole Green Love

12 Sep

We just discussed the importance of “green” air fresheners recently in our Reed Diffuser post. I just created a couple of natural air fresheners that I wanted to share with you.

The beauty is that you most likely have all of the materials in your home to get crackin’ on these quick projects. All you need for this first one is coffee beans and a vase.

Coffee beans absorb icky odors in the home without you having to do the work of spraying, plugging in, or replacing those commercial air fresheners, which emit chemical cocktails to only mask odors anyhow. Plus, I just love the look of coffee beans. They’re pretty and remind me of hanging out in a coffee shop. Coffee beans are even used for sniffing at the fragrance counter to “clear the palate” of your nose before you smell another perfume. So why not use them in your home?

To create what is pictured to the above, I grabbed a vase, coffee grounds, and whole beans. I simply layered the grounds and the beans to create a little visual texture. That’s all. So easy!

For the candle creation, I used a larger vase (larger than what I used for the coffee freshener listed above), coffee beans, and a pillar candle. I filled the bottom of the vase to serve as the “holder” for my candle, and then wedged a pillar candle into the beans to sit prettily in the vase.

The warm, neutral color of the coffee beans works in just about any room!

What natural ways do you keep the air in your home smelling fresh and fabulous?
