It is easy to get stuck in a juicing rut, but with it being the best time of year to get fresh produce you can easily be inspired to make some new creations. Whenever I am juicing, I like to make sure I am including lots of veggies in it too. Fruit is obviously quite tasty when freshly juiced, but I don’t like to forget the veggies because they help even out the flavor so it’s not too sweet and they add in lots of other healthful nutrients. Once you are comfortable juicing and know what flavor combinations you like, it’s easier to just toss in some produce and know you will like whatever juice comes flowing out into your glass.
Summer Salad Juice
½ of a large head of romaine lettuce
2 large leaf stalks of kale (I used purple kale)
3 cooked and peeled beets
2 nectarines (pitted)
(Makes about 40 oz. fresh juice)
Whenever you’re juicing, you’ll want to make sure you get all of the juice from the smaller produce that you’ll be juicing. In this case, make sure to not juice your beets or strawberries last. By wedging them in the middle somewhere and juicing something after them you can be sure to push all of their delicious juice through the juicing machine and into your cup.
Juicing itself it easy and fun, but the clean up can take a little bit of time. I like to clean up right away so all of the produce shreds in my machine don’t dry and cake onto the juicer. If I need to skedaddle out of the house, I’ll leave it all to soak in warm soapy water before I hit the road. This is also the reason I make a decent amount of juice too. If I’m going to make it, I might as well fill the juicing pitcher I have…right?!
Fresh juice is awesome and completely different than what you buy at the grocery store. Not only are you using fresh (usually raw) produce, but the juice isn’t pasteurized. Since it is not pasteurized, all of the vital and delicate nutrients that are normally found in your produce will remain in the juice and will be made available to your bod!
