Easy Homemade Crème Brûlée | Whole Green Love

I have been on a crème brûlée kick lately and can’t stop making it! Help! I love creamy vanilla desserts and this definitely fits the bill.  Crème brûlée sounds like it is difficult to make, but once you realize how easy it really is, you may find it becomes a dessert staple in your house. Once you make it a few times you won’t even need a recipe to follow. 

Crème Brûlée

2 ½ cups  cream

2 ½ teaspoons vanilla

¼- ½ cup sugar, small amount for torching

6 egg yolks

Makes: 4 servings

Turn your oven on to 300°F and place a 9 x 13 baking dish on the third from the bottom shelf (it will be decently low). Pour water into your pan so it is half full. Close the oven and allow the water to warm while you prepare your mixture. In a saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat, warm up your cream and vanilla. In a bowl or mixer cream together your sugar and egg yolks until light and whipped. Once your cream is bubbling and steamy (be careful it doesn’t burn) pour into your egg bowl and mix well.

Ladle your vanilla mixture evenly into 4 ramekins and gently place in your warmed water bath oven. Be careful not to have your fingers touch the hot water as you place your ramekins in the 9×13 pan. The water should come up to approximately the half way mark of your ramekins… if it’s a little less that’s okay. Bake for about 35 – 40 minutes. Your crème brulee will be ready when you can gently touch the top of it without breaking through the crust, yet it is still “jiggly”. With an oven mitt, gently take each ramekin out of the water bath and place on a cooling rack. You can pull the whole water bath out of the oven, but I’m too scared to spill the hot water everywhere! Ha!

After about 30 minutes, put your ramekins in the fridge to fully cool for about 2 hours. When ready to serve, remove from the fridge and let sit for 30 minutes. Place a hearty pinch of sugar evenly on top of each custard dish and gently torch until your sugar is melted. Let your finished product sit for about 5 minutes for the sugar to firm up and serve.

This is the perfect treat for your family or holiday gathering. Not only does it look great and taste great, but it’s easy to throw together and will put a smile on all the faces in the room…who doesn’t like crème brûlée?!  Most people have all of these ingredients on hand as well, so you might be able to avoid an additional trip to the store.

You can make it look extra special too with the addition of fresh berries or a sprig of fresh mint…but trust me, you don’t need to add that if you don’t want to because this bad boy brûlée can hold its own. Enjoy!
