Hydration Never Tasted So Good | Whole Green Love

19 Aug

During one of my many weekly trips to the grocery store, I finally decided to try a new beverage, coconut water!  Well, I should say my husband finally said, “Just buy one”, since I am always saying, “ I wonder what that tastes like?”  So I made the move and put the coconut water in our cart. What a great decision! This drink is light, refreshing, and as thirst quenching as water.  I currently have our refrigerator stocked with a few different brands to taste test and see which our favorites are.

Coconut water is naturally full of electrolytes and minerals; it’s similar to a sports drink, but without the added sugar and preservatives! Coconut water is a great way to naturally rehydrate your body after a strenuous workout or after a day of fun in the hot sun.

Have you ever stopped to take a look at the back of a sports drink bottle?  You’ll see ingredients such as high-fructose corn syrup, natural flavoring, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, sodium citrate, malic acid, phenylalanine, sucralose, Vitamins B6 & B12, & artificial coloring.  I don’t know about you but after a strenuous workout I don’t feel like rehydrating myself with high-fructose corn syrup, “natural flavoring”, and artificial color.  I want to put something in my body that is as healthy as the workout I just completed. Have I ever had a sports drink? You bet, but it’s nice to know there are alternatives out there for a truly healthy, rehydrating, and replenishing beverage.

If you take a look at the back of the coconut water bottle, the ingredient list is short and sweet, young coconut water. I like the sound of this list. This one ingredient drink is a natural isotonic beverage.  The natural occurring electrolytes that are found in coconut water are similar to that of human blood. Talk about a great way to replenish.  The three brands I have tried so far are O.N.E. coconut water, Amy and Brian’s Coconut Juice, and the Naked Juice brand coconut water.  To be honest, they have all been delicious and very similar in taste.  I guess that’s what you get with an ingredient list with one item! Cheers to coconut water!

Have you tried coconut water before? What are your thoughts on it?
