Spice it up with Chai Tea! | Whole Green Love

Chai tea is the perfect hot beverage for crisp fall days and mornings, like today! The rich flavors of the black tea and spices like cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom, are sure to get your palate craving everything that you love about fall and winter. It’s enough to make me want to pull out the harvest décor, slip on a sweatshirt, hit up a fall farmers’ markets, and carve a pumpkin. I always crave chai tea in the fall!

Not only is chai tea one of my favorites because of its amazing flavor, it’s also a drink that is seriously crazy with healthy antioxidants for your bod. It’s a shame that black tea often gets overshadowed by green tea in the health department. Green tea is amazing and loaded with goodness, but don’t underestimate the power of other great teas – like black tea! Black tea, which is the type of tea found in chai, is perfect for getting that gentle kick of caffeine without the jitteriness of coffee. Black tea has the highest caffeine content when you are looking at the differences between black, green, and white varieties. From a health standpoint, this liquid has properties that have been shown to lower cholesterol, regulate blood sugar, promote strong teeth, and protect against certain cancers. Hook me up to an IV of chai tea! This stuff is loaded.

My favorite way to drink chai tea, is in the form of a latte. Sure, Starbucks makes a great chai latte, but there is no need to pay for an expensive drink when you can make it at home. Save your cash my friends, this drink is super easy to whip up in no time! Boil your water, steep your chai tea (follow the directions on your tea canister), and serve with a splash of milk and a bit of sugar or honey to sweeten it to perfection. Your drink is ready to rock and roll. Another bonus – you get a little shot of calcium when you spike your tea with milk! My latest chai tea favorite is Van Dorn Gourmets Chai Tea.
