Real Food Travel Snacks for Kids
31 Dec
As we prepare for a family vacation, I’m already thinking about snacks to pack to keep a toddler nourished and content on a 4-ish hour flight and travel day. I want a good balance of snacks I know Lyla will love love love and also plenty of things to keep her bod healthy and her stomach content. Air travel during the winter months can mean exposure to sick people, so I want to make sure we keep our immune systems strong as well. Processed foods and too much sugar can do a number on the immune system, so we avoid that as much as possible.
Leading up to the trip, I’ll make sure we are loaded up with cod liver oil, regular doses of probiotics, vitamin D, kombucha, fermented foods, and elderberry syrup to keep us healthy.
Eating real food on the road can be a challenge and sometimes you can’t be perfect (especially on your travel days when you are literally eating on-th-go), but here are some of the snacks I plan to bring along and additional ideas for you. Some are links to a few of my favorite real food bloggers who have some great travel friendly snacks.
- Popcorn popped in coconut oil, sprinkled with sea salt
- Mixed nuts
- Fruit snacks (I always make fruit snacks for Lyla – blueberry is her favorite – but this time I bought some from the store with a decent ingredient list) I had planned on making them but wanted some that didn’t need to be refrigerated.
- Banana chips (made in our food dehydrator)
- Beef jerky (homemade in the food dehydrator) or Nick’s Sticks (I got these for my husband for Christmas…so tasty!)
- Suckers (to help little popping ears on take-off and landing) without artificial dyes or flavors.
