Kombucha-rita: The Probiotic Margarita

Nic and I have a thing for margaritas. When people ask what our drink of choice is, it’s always something including tequila. People always say something like “Woa! Tequila?! You guys are pretty hard core!” Ha! Not really.
And margaritas, I can’t get enough of. Problem is, they have a bad wrap for being made with sugary corn syrupy “lime flavored” liquids. Boo. We make our own margaritas from scratch at home and this week I wanted to try something different. I wanted to include one of my favorite drinks in the cocktail: kombucha.
1 oz. tequila 1 oz. triple sec 3 oz. plain kombucha Juice of 1 lime 1 lime wedge Coarsely ground sea salt Using the wedge of lime, wet the rim of a glass, and press the rim into sea salt. Throw a handful of ice in the glass and pour in the tequila, triple sec, kombucha, and lime juice. Stir until combined and garnish with a lime wedge.
Do you usually just use just tequila in your margaritas? Or do you also put in Cointreau or triple sec?

I make a Paleo margarita with tequila, fresh lime juice, fresh pineapple juice and some seltzer. Yum.

Definitely add Grand Marnier — very smooth….. will have to try your recipe — all for healthy margaritas!

We are paleo and I tired Robb Wolf’s margarita and it doesn’t quite do it for me-but this is pure genius! I just made a fresh batch of ‘booch and know what else I can do with it. Now, if only I weren’t only 5 months prego

kombucha will typically already contain some alcohol unless you’re a kombucha guru or the kombucha whisperer.
due to the larger amount of alcohol it will probably kill some of the bacteria but not all to the best of my knowledge. That just means you need to drink it quicker!
Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Also, I would suggest mixing the liquids in another vessel prior to pouring otherwise you’ll just end up with a layer of kombucha, a layer of tequila and a layer of tripsec.
Doesn’t the alcohol kill the beneficial bacteria?
I read that it takes some time for the alcohol to kill off the good stuff, so mixed it up and drink it down
