Winterize Your Moisturizer

9 Feb

Looking for a little skin rejuvenation during these chilly winter months? I sure know my skin has been asking for a little love. It’s inevitable that when the weather gets cold and dry your skin is going to try to follow suit…don’t let it! I go through phases of using lotions or body oils to moisturize, but when my skin gets winter dry I like to pull out the big guns and use some straight up oil.

I like using lots of different body oils, almond oil being one of them. It doesn’t have a distinct smell like sesame oil does, so it’s a nice one to use if you are looking for light, nearly unscented oil. It’s also perfect to add a splash of your favorite essential oil for an aroma mood boost. Almond oil is great for dry skin and naturally has vitamin E in it, which is protective to skin as well. You only need a couple seconds and your oil will be ready to go. I got a 4 oz. bottle of almond oil and put 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil right into the bottle. Gave it a good shake and my aromatherapy body oil was all set.

I used the Aura Cacia Pure Essential Oils brand. I have used them in the past and have always been pleased with their quality and of course their delish scents. Make sure to check out their website. They use natural and organic ingredients and avoid anything that is synthetic-derived. Something else interesting is that they are proactive in worker safety, fair treatment, sustainable growing practices, environmental stewardship…you have to like the sound of that!

The lemongrass in this oil gives it a fabulously light smell that is both refreshing and calming. It’s one of those scents that can’t be overwhelming, so whether you put 3 drops or 30 drops in your oil, it’s still going to have that lovely mood lifting scent. I think that’s another reason lemongrass is so good for this time of year. With the winter months come gray skies and that cold winter chill. Lemongrass is a cheery, bright scent that can help lift that winter fog.

If you are looking for a new winter moisturizer to try out, this almondy lemongrass oil is a hit in my books. Soothing and moisturizing for skin and it leaves you smelling lemongrass fresh.
