An Easter Treat for Your Face

23 Apr

Ever since spring started budding I have noticed my allergies kicking in. It seems like every morning I wake up with those oh-so-puffy eyes that I think everyone has experienced at least once in their life. Instead of doing a recipe for our taste buds this Easter weekend, I thought I would share a recipe for our ever-enduring skin! Once again, I was off to mixing concoctions in my kitchen…gotta love that!

This will probably be one of the easiest skin food mixes you make. It only has 2 ingredients: refrigerated cucumbers and a little fresh aloe straight from the plant! No worries if your house isn’t equipped with an aloe plant. You can use 100% aloe and just squeeze a little into your mix. You can purchase pure aloe from most health food stores. In Milwaukee we have: Health Hut, Whole Foods, Milk’n Honey, and Natural Outpost. It looks like a clear gel and will say 100% pure aloe. Aloe is a great skin remedy for cooling and soothing irritated skin, so it goes great with our counterpart cucumber! All you need to do is peel and cube your cucumber. You can drain them a little by absorbing any extra cucumber juice with a clean dishtowel. Toss your cubed cukes into a blender and zap until they are blended and smooth. Pour them into a dish and squeeze a little sprig of your aloe plant right into the cucumber goodness. I even used the aloe leaf to stir my mask so I didn’t have to dirty a spoon (I know, I know. Lazy), and it worked like a charm!

I just used my fingers to apply the mask to my face. It is a little messy so you’ll want to do it near a sink or right in the shower or bath. All I have to say about this mask is it feels AMAZING! Cucumbers are naturally a cooling food, but when they have the chill from the fridge too, it’s a winning combo! I have ultra sensitive skin and this mask was so soothing and cooling. I’ll be pulling this recipe out again after a long, hot day in the sun! Even after I rinsed the mask off my face I didn’t have any irritating or tingly feeling. Cool, calm, and collected…that’s how I like my skin! After a dabble of jojoba oil, my face was ready to go for the day.

If you have just an extra minute this weekend, give your face a little Easter treat with this mask. You’ll feel refreshed and ready for the day! Did I mention that it smells refreshing too? You’ll be wanting some cucumber water to guzzle afterwards. I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Any cooling facemasks you can’t live without?
