Sweet Scrubbin’

19 Feb

Everybody ready to unhibernate their skin this spring?  I find myself having to exfoliate more often this time of year. Whether it’s with an exfoliating scrub or just spending a little extra time with that washcloth or loofa, your skin is bound to look fresh and revived with a little TLC. Have you checked the prices lately on scrubby products…ouch! Those bad boys can really thin out the wallet! Not to mention you have to check the ingredients list to make sure you really want to scrub and rub that product into your largest body organ…your skin! A quick and easy fix for this possible dilemma-your kitchen. Yep, you can nix those pricey store scrubs and just as easily make your own.

Here is my Lavender Honey Scrub recipe. It’s sure to sooth and smooth your body and mind!

½ cup sugar

4 Tbsp olive oil

1 Tbsp raw honey

6-8 drops lavender essential oil

There you have it friends! Mix all of these lovely ingredients together and you have a sugar scrub to nourish and replenish your oh so deserving skin.  If you like to use a large portion of sweet, sugary scrub this will probably last you about 3-4 wash sessions. If a little dabble does the trick for you, this could last you 6 or more sessions. Either way the good thing is you can just whip up another batch when your supply is dwindling. Feel free to adjust the ratios to make a scrub consistency that you like. If lavender isn’t your thing, dabble in any essential oil and breathe in that fantastic aromatherapy sensation you create in your steamy shower or bath.

I’ll try to use organic ingredients whenever possible. Whether I am eating something or using it as a product. It makes me feel good to know the ingredients are as close to what nature intended it to be as possible…pure, clean, and healthy – for you and the environment. I know this isn’t always possible with availability and cost, but good to keep in mind when you are shopping.

The sugar in this scrub is a nice, gentle way to exfoliate your skin, not as harsh as a salt scrub. That being said you can use this kind of scrub most days of the week, without over doing it. The olive oil and honey are soothing and hydrating for the skin that has been through a lot this winter season, at least here in Wisconsin.  Lavender is also calming for both body and mind. Not only does it have a delectable scent, but it also has natural antiseptic properties, which are perfect for a natural clean feeling.

Did I mention this scrub makes a great gifty item? You can throw together a mix of different flavor sensations and put them in cute storage containers such as rustic canning jars. Add a little raffia, twine, or ribbon and this gift of sugar is sure to sweeten up someone’s day!

Scrub Disclaimer: Be careful not to slip in your tub after you use this scrub. The oils can turn the floor into a big banana peel! Make sure to rinse the floor off after you use it with a little soap and water, so you won’t be unpleasantly surprised the next time you try to step in!

Scrub on!
