Avocado’s little secret…

21 Sep

Now that fall has already started to kick into gear, it is making me so very excited for this upcoming season! This is by far my favorite time of year for all of the fun outdoor orchard action. Not to mention it’s nice to finally enjoy the cooler days and nights that don’t suck all the energy out of you, like the dog days of summer. One way that I realize the weather is changing is my face…you may be thinking, okay, that’s strange, but it’s true! The skin around my nose, cheeks, and chin start singing for a little extra moisturizer…hydration please! I take that song to heart and make sure to be extra generous with moisturizing those dry skin areas. It’s a foreshadowing to the extra cold months of winter and when dry skin is at its peak!

I thought, why not start preparing my skin now, so I could try to maintain as much moisture in my skin up to and through the winter season? A hydrating and moisturizing facemask should do the trick! Due to having such sensitive skin, I have a very hard time using any commercial facemasks without having some sort of sensitivity to them, which kind of defeats the purpose of a facial mask.  I decided to create my own facial recipe…a little treat for my skin.  Knowing what I had in my kitchen I did a little research and came up with this recipe.

Creamy Avocado Love Mask:

½ Avocado mashed until creamy

2 tbs.  Plain whole yogurt

2 tbs.  Pure raw honey

(Be bold and by local and/or organic when possible)

Blend these ingredients together until creamy and apply mask to clean, dry skin. Create your spa surroundings…maybe a little relaxing music, a few swigs of cucumber lemon water, and a cozy place to lie down to let the mask marinate.

Each of these ingredients deserves their own special post because of how great they all are. Avocados are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, but the key player in hydration here are its healthy fat content, which helps in rejuvenating and hydrating dry, dull skin. Honey not only helps to lock in moisture in your skin to provide it with that healthy glow, it also naturally helps to clean your skin of toxin and pollutant build up.  I thought I would throw some yogurt in as well for good measure, due to its soothing and cooling properties. Having such sensitive skin, I can always have a little extra help in that department.

With a little help from my husband in getting this mask from the bowl to my face it turned out great! I felt like I was truly feeding my skin a little healthy nutrition. I always feel good knowing I am using such basic products on my skin that I could choose to eat if I really wanted to. That’s the fun of these DIY products! My skin felt nice and hydrated after I removed the mask…not to mention I was ultra relaxed from my home zen spa treatment. Afterwards, I washed my face as usual and applied moisturizer. Nothing beats a day at the spa in the Sheets household.

What ingredients have you thrown together for a homemade facial mask?
